The Headline Difference

The same side-by-side format we use for Assure vs a panel shop — now for Assure vs Schmick.

THE SHORT VERSION

Quick answer

Schmick charges a fixed term of 1–5 years paid upfront, plus $50 per repair. Assure offers monthly or fixed-term membership, with $0 repair fees on our Platinum and Ultimate plans. Beyond price, eligibility rules differ meaningfully too:

Newer, near-new car?

Both work — but Schmick's Gold tier requires your car to be under 4 months old; Assure accepts any car under 10 years old.

Use your car for rideshare, courier work, or as a rental?

Schmick's terms explicitly exclude these uses. Assure's exclusion is narrower — only vehicles used as a "tool of trade" are excluded.

Want windscreen chip cover included?

Assure covers up to 2 chips on all tiers; Schmick's Gold membership doesn't include windscreen repair at all (Platinum Plus only, and just 1 chip).

PRICING & VALUE

How the pricing really compares

Schmick’s model is a multi-year commitment paid upfront — the longer the term, the lower the effective yearly cost (roughly $258–$293/year on 4–5 year terms), plus $50 whenever you actually use it.

Assure’s membership is billed monthly (or as a fixed term, if you prefer to pay upfront), and on Platinum or Ultimate, eligible repairs cost nothing on top of your membership.

Schmick is available exclusively through a car dealer. So if you’ve been offered you a cheap deal on Schmick, send us the quote and we will price match the terms.

Assure might suit you if…

  • You want monthly flexibility instead of a multi-year lock-in
  • Your car doesn’t fit Schmick’s tighter age or use rules
  • You want existing damage fixed too — 50% off when you join

Schmick might suit you if…

  • Damage is rare and you’re happy to lock in a multi-year term
  • You want the lowest possible effective cost on a 4–5 year commitment

Vehicle eligibility and use restrictions

READ THE FINE PRINT

This is where the two memberships diverge most. Schmick’s Gold tier is built for near-new cars only — under 4 months old from registration. Their Platinum Plus tier is more flexible (up to 7 years old, if dealer-purchased), but Schmick’s terms also rule out taxis, rideshare, rental and hire vehicles, tour services, courier use, and tools of trade — plus a list of named supercar marques, regardless of how the car is used.

Assure accepts any car under 10 years old and only excludes vehicles used as a “tool of trade” — a narrower restriction. If your car does rideshare or courier work on the side, it’s worth checking eligibility directly with each provider.

Assure accept cars with existing damage and will provide a competitive quote to fix, where as Schmick doesn’t.

WHAT'S COVERED

Coverage — where the fine print matters

Assure’s monthly membership ranges from $39–$69/month, with $0 repair fees on Platinum and Ultimate. Assure accepts any car under 10 years old with no pre-existing damage. Schmick’s Gold tier requires a car under 4 months old; their Platinum Plus tier allows dealer-purchased used cars up to 7 years old.
